I always used 2 inverted v's. One on 40 and one on 80 meters. Since I
built the loop that was in one of the issues on QST this year, April I
think. Wow, I love that 40 meter loop. Once in a while I will run the net
on Ecars on 7.255 and have flipped around between the 2 antennas. That loop
works so much better and it seems to be quieter which helps with the mobile
signals. A lot of people have commented on how much better my signal is.
This is just a 40 meter loop and the top is around 40 feet. I go down 30
feet on each side from the top and tie it off to pull it out, then the bottm
is about 6 feet off the ground. It looks like a kite. I feed it at the top
with RG-213 and have a 1:1 swr right on 7.255 I can go the whole voice
portion and never go above 1.5:1 I do have to use a tuner for the CW
portion.
THe harmonics work well also for 10,15, and 20. I tuned it at the bottom
and have around 137 feet of 12 guage wire. I also found something
interesting. If I leave the bottom open instead of closed like it should
be, it works great on 17 meters. The rest of the bands don't work to well
though.
