Has anyone else noticed that the FCC has now discontinued issuing
protected frequency bulletins for Radio Communications Emergency nets
in the 40 meter and 75 meter amateur bands? They say that amateurs can
use 60 meters instead.
Also, at the same time, an order from FCC is now allowing BPL industry
to continue full speed ahead with their HF interference-causing
internet service.
The big problem is, 60 meters is not one of the amateur radio
"notched" bands recognized by BPL industry. So we will receive the
full power interference from BPL on 60 meters instead of the 20dB down
interference.
Propagation on 40 meters during midday is usually rather good for NVIS
communications. 75 meters at night is also good for NVIS. However,
propagation on 60 meters is often only good for NVIS during morning
and evening. NVIS is the mode often used for statewide emergency nets.
Obviously, to anyone who has read the recent FCC order on BPL, the FCC
no longer views the Amateur Radio Service on HF as a valuable
emergency communications service worth protecting from interference.
