I think many larger cities have one repeater that acts as a kind of sewer to
one extent or another, and this one is possibly the most extreme of its kind.
Some say it's better to have such an outlet for the rude&crude among us or
else they would infest many other facilities. Of course any non-ham who hears
them either on-air or on their streaming audio (yes, all that garbage is on
the net) will think hams in general are a bunch of nasty jokers.
It is also of interest that the former owners of that repeater are the worst
abusers of the club call / vanity call system, with dozens of desirable
callsigns hoarded in the names of several family members. Some of those have
been cancelled, but it is clear that these people see rules as something to be
vigorously gamed with an incredible level of contempt.
