Johan,

The "old" KAM supports Pactor 1 only. If you want to use the Winlink system
there are plenty PMBO's who still support Pactor1. However, you should be
able to link ALWAYS to a PMBO regardless what protocol it supports.   What
happens if you try to connect a pactor 2 pactor 3 only PMBO is that the link
will come up but the PMBO will reject to continue and break the link.
My advise would be to look at www.winlink.org and www.airmail2000.com
You will find all info needed to gear up for e-mailover HF radio using
pactor.
Obviously the newer pactor protocols will give you huge advantages in tersm
of data speed and robustness, but  the KAM should give you plenty
possibilities to start with.
