Going back to the original post to bypass all the baloney. Sounds like 
you are interested in making use of a DX cluster. Before going too far 
are you aware of a DX cluster in your area that you can use?  Another 
mentioned you would be better off using a conventional TNC+transceiver 
setup in place of the Ken wood HT, I agree.  You might want to search 
qth.net for DX cluster or LOGic email lists that could help you better.
