Radio forwarding stations by gentleman's agreement set up hierarchical
forwarding files. Noam stands for "north America." USA, stands for USA,
while IA stands for Iowa and #cia stands for Central Iowa. Stations in
other continents need only have a route to a north American gateway for
forwarding all their noam traffic. The those outside the USA need only
one forward file entry for the usa. That gateway then needs to know
routes to as many states as possible, and once inside a state the
#substate address can refine the path, and then is the only time the bbs
call is to be invoked. That's how the h.route is supposed to work. Too
many internet connected packet bbs ignore that and splatter P traffic
all over and too often these days it fails to arrive while bulletins
that thrive with such a treatment make it around the world in a few
hours.
