Is that $12 for an examination, or for a new ticket or something else?
And how often do you need to pay it (once, every ? years when renew
the papers etc)? Here we have one personal radio permission related to
the ham itself. And as many radio permissions as number of radios you
have. Ex. 5 radios = 5 separate radio tickets + 1 ham ticket, in sum
that is 6 papers. All of them void in 5 years so they must be renewed.
The paper work is done via the ham union. The membership is mandatory,
so case you haven't renewed the union's membership for a period of
time (these 5 years), they force you to pay all the member fees for
all 5 years before you apply for renewing the papers. That's not all.
When a radio permission voids, you have to carry your radio to a
service to be officially checked to prove that comply with some
(unknown) rules and standards. It makes me wonder how they could test
the brand new Japanese radio with their old instruments, HI. Anyway,
they force you to do that and, of course, to pay for that every five
yrs again and again ... Comparable to your country?
Btw, do you have a license for all radios you have i.e. one paper for
all of them or you have separate tickets for every particular radio?
