Doug, any dumb terminal program that will run a modem (no need for
automatic dialing commands) will run a TNC and with the same cable,
though some of the pins on a TNC connector shouldn't have connections. A
9 pin to modem cable solves that problem automatically.

If you install the AX.25 kernel modules, Linux can act as a BBS or node,
probably fancier than you wish to begin with.
