I don't know much about the 232 but if it works fine in JNOS and doesn't 
work at all in your other programs then I'd think it is in KISS mode.  You 
might take a look at your manual and see if it tells what command made 
while running from JNOS takes it out of KISS mode.  There is probably a way 
to do it from one of your terminal programs but you'll have to know the 
specific key sequence that does it.  Later to use JNOS again you have to 
put it back in KISS mode.
