Hello Everyone,
Following the recent tsunami, I received the information below.
I think there is a lot of good information that we could learn
from in the document mentioned by the original sender of the
email below. I hope you find this helpful in our own disaster
preparedness.
73,
Phil

Subject: Cascadia Subduction Zone Information
Health Alert Network Members:
A subduction zone earthquake like the last Sunday's 9.0 earthquake can
obviously have catastrophic consequences. Although public health
emergency response requirements are minor compared to the immediate
challenges of search and rescue and debris clearance, ensuring that
adequate and appropriate public health information is provided is
important for short-term and long-term recovery efforts.
The URL below links to a recent report by the Cascadia Region
Earthquake Workgroup (CREW) that describes potential damage from a
Cascadia subduction zone earthquake of a similar size to the India-Burma
plate quake.
It's the most readable, complete description of the region's
vulnerability to the subduction hazard I've read. After checking with
the CREW folks, a new version is scheduled for release March 2005. The
basic information will remain the same. Projected coastal damages will
be somewhat higher. Projected damages along the I-5 corridor will be
somewhat lower. Despite the revisions, the CREW folks thought would be a
good idea to get the information out.
