DENIS: (AAR0VD WA)- FYI- You might get a few phone calls/emails out of
this-- Sorry OM.. de John-
Ref: NNN0EHG OR (NMCM ECOM OFFICER) brings up Some VERY TRUE
points as shown during exercise this past week..
Note, that I too think we need to keep up the redundancy of
digital PLUS
email, as if a major system, such as AOL, or more recently HOME.COM were
to go down, out of business, be blocked by a DoS (Denial of Service)
attack or
so on, without Packet, Pactor, PSK31 and all other current or future
digital modes,
we would be hard pressed to get the word around. Please look into
setting up on
VHF or HF Digital modes at your station, if not already so equipped. I
know that
when he is available, Denis Puls, AAR0VD WA (Sysop for RGN 10 BBS) will
be
MORE than happy to help you tweak your connection to the BBS for
retrieval of
Traffic and MTS/NDN/AFMS messages...
He is QUITE capable, as I KNOW all of you are. Just give yourself
a little faith
and you will see you can do it!
73 es tnx fer all ur doing,
de
John Jewkes, SMD US ARMY MARS

SUBJ: CURRENT NEWS ITEMS RELATED TO ECOM
1. This past weekend Army MARS held an exercise that I was not aware of.
Turns out that AAA0OR had sent me several emails about it but was not
aware that I had not received them. He uses Juno as his Email server and
due to a spam mail problem from a subscriber of my server, my entire
server was blocked out of Juno (both in and out bound msg service).
2. Tnx to the efforts of AAA0OR the service has been restored and I had a
long talk with my local Webster Internet server this morning. Lesson to
be learned is that we (MARS) need to practice what we preach and keep our
communications as much as possible on the HF/VHF voice & digital
circuits. (You will hear me read the meat of this msg on the Trf & Admin
nets over the next couple days) Email is wonderful but especially in
these times fragile and vulnerable. One more reason to be aware of
happening around us and report them.
3. The fires in Az & Co are creating needs for emergency communications.
The FCC has designated 7265 & 3990 for emergency use only related to the
fires. The NW Noon time Amateur net has moved to 7283.5 because they
were right next to the 3765 freq. Also NMCM in Az are at a ComCon 1
alert level, are monitoring 7382.5 & 4042.5 and depending on our 7X2E net
for support.
4. Again just a reminder that any time we find another MARS agency using
the conus freq's we use for the 7X2E net we are to let them know of our
presence, offer any assistance we have, and then just monitor the freq's,
responding only to calls directed to the 7X2E net or that are not heard
by Net control of the other Emergency Net. Any questions about this
needs be directed to NNN0ASK Two, 7X2E net mgr.
5. Forecasts are for the Fire Danger to soon hit the RED mark in the
Pacific NW. Lets hope we dont have the tragic fires our neighbors have
but extra effort needs to be put forth to be ready to Serve where we can
if it should happen to us also. Send an EEI if the situation seems to
warrant. Renew your relationships with the local emergency agencies so
they are freshly aware of your capabilities & willingness to serve. Take
another look at your 72 hr kit and portable emergency equipment to be
sure you're ready. Hold your breath.
