Hi All,
As you may or may not be aware, Al Waller K3KTJ has made
this list possible for a number of years. He started and owns the two
websites QSL.NET and QTH.NET outright. In years past, several
'platinum' level donees have allowed the rest of us to have essentially a
free ride by footing the bill for the added expenses that come up year
after year... Such as this year, a New Broadband connection and even
faster servers to handle the ever increasing loads.
Al has been reticent to ask for much in the way of payback. This
is
the way of the Amateur Radio. However, this year, the sources of those
platinum donaters has dried up due to the economy. Al has privately noted
to those of us who manage these lists, and says we can pass this on to
the
members of the lists, that if each user of the list donated $1.00 this
year, he
could have reserve enough to keep the system going for many years to
come.
Initial costs and start-up equipment was paid for entirely out of
pocket, just
because he knew that AOL/etc. didn't really care about Ham Radio
Operators,
or their special needs or wants, so he started his own Mailing Reflector
and has
now grown it into a full blown ISP.
Unlike most other ISP's and their ilk, he does NOT make every
user pay a
high price to be here. In Fact, he charges little for those who desire to
have dial-up
access. I would like to ask that those who can come up with a dollar or
two please
consider donating it to Al. He has a 'snail' address but also has a
'paypal' account
if you would like to send the money to him that way. Please check the
QSL.NET
homepage for more info on where to send the funds.
For most of the group, that will entail forgoing a couple of
sodas, beers or cups
of Coffee. Not too difficult of a request IMHO.
Thank You for your rapt attention es 73 de John Jewkes AAA0OR/W6HNC
