I like the suggestion of March 14, 1902 birthday of William B. Gould,
(1NP / W1NP / K2MP) because it's also PI day.
I was looking at the STEM festival dates.
I received some suggestions privately :
+ Charlie Bolden, KE4IQB, 1994 SAREX mission STS-60 that led to ARISS
Shuttle Amateur Radio Experiment (SAREX), later called the Space
Amateur Radio Experiment, was a program that promoted and supported
the use of amateur ("ham") radio by astronauts in low Earth orbit
aboard the United StatesSpace Shuttle to communicate with other
amateur radio stations around the world. It was superseded by the
Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) program.
Major General, U.S. Marine Corps (Ret.),12th NASA Administrator,
Founder & CEO Emeritus, The Charles F. Bolden Group
+ Guion S. Bluford Jr. (KA5EDN) became the first African American
astronaut to fly in space in 1983 on the Challenger space shuttle. He
is an avid amateur radio operator, holding the callsign KA5EDN.
+ Ronald McNair (KA5RSI)was the second African American to go into
space, was also a licensed amateur radio operator with the callsign
KA5RSI.Unfortunately, McNair died in the 1986 Challenger disaster.
+ Jeanette Epps, KF5QNU… she is VERY influential with women and young
girls in amateur radio and STEM opportunities.
Personally I like Mr. Gould's birthday the best. What do y'all think?
+ He is one of the first.
