Dear OMIK Members,
Here is just a gentle reminder of the Dayton Hamvention Bus Trip from Ann
Arbor, Michigan to Hamvention on May 20, 2017. We guarantee the most fun,
most prize-filled ham radio bus trip anywhere in the world!
Here is an invitation to anyone in Michigan to join us on our journey to
Xenia, Ohio!
The ARROW Bus to Hamvention is filling up fast! We have 7 (SEVEN) seats
left, so, please, sign up as soon as possible! Scroll down on our main web
page and click the link. Pay Pal available.
www.w8rp.org
As of this year, there is a new location for the world’s largest Ham Radio
Convention. This is at the Greene County Fairgrounds and Expo Center in
Xenia, Ohio. The rumors have it that there will be up to 30,000 attendees
this year!
Remember, we leave the Ann Arbor Transit Park-and-Ride just east of Pioneer
High School a half-hour earlier this year due to the extra distance to
Xenia.
Please Note: The departure time is 4:00 am this year because Xenia is
one-half hour farther.
DO be sure to get your HAMVENTION TICKET separately from the Hamvention web
page:
www.hamvention.org
Also, you can sell your stuff again this year. ARROW has rented a flea
market space. All we ask is that you keep your items to a reasonable number
and that you volunteer at the flea market booth for an hour of so during
the day.
Ann Arbor – 2017 Dayton Bus Prize Donors (So Far…)
Yes! We have door prizes!
So far, we have some great door prizes to give out! Numbers at the end of
the listing are Hamvention Booths, if the dealer is attending.
Here’s the latest!
QRPme Each and every rider gets a FREE KIT! We build it on the bus! NO
soldering! NO tools! Minimum number of parts! Total donation value of
$385.00
Everyone please take pictures! Rex wants to do a feature article on this!
You’ve heard of Ann Arbor referred to as “A Square”? Well, we now present
the “AAABBB” or the “A Cube B Cube”, otherwise known as the “ARROW Ann
Arbor Big Bus Buildathon”. A little bit of FDIM (“Four Days in May”) comes
on the bus with us!
QRPme: Rex Harper, W1REX, of Limerick, Maine, has one of the neatest lines
of QRP Kits around!
QRPme has sponsored “buildathons” at Hamvention (“Four Days in May”), a
whole slew of QRP gatherings around the USA and a big buildathon in England.
He gives us a neat little piece of test equipment for anyone building a
low-power transmitter or transceiver. When you are finished with your 10-20
minute project, you will have a nifty little RF Probe. Its great for
sniffing out small transmit signals by hooking it up to a digital
multimeter. That and a 5-watt dummy load, and you’ve got the two most
important tools of any QRP (Low Power) radio builder.
Check out Rex’s many offerings at: www.qrpme.com. Please be sure to click
on the link on the left: “UK Biggest Buildathon”. This will give you
documentation and a video on our FREE RF PROBE BUILD-ON-THE-BUS KIT.
A word from our sponsor:
Remember, every ham, including Technicians, has CW (Morse code) privileges
on 80, 40, 15 and 10 meters. Work the world on short wave with a itty-bitty
radio that you can build at home with minimum soldering skills and a few
tools.
If you’re a total newbie, the Sea Sprite transceiver is easy to put
together with big circuit board traces and pads to avoid soldering errors.
Order the 40 meter technician or 20 meter general version. It comes with
two crystals. Consider getting an extra crystal (or two) to move you around
the band a bit. (7030 is the 40 meter QRP “watering hole”, while 14060 is
the 20 meter site. 7122 is a great frequency for slow code people.)
For those of you with a bit of building skill: You may remember the
“Rockmite” that was glowingly reviewed in QST magazine (of American Radio
Relay League fame). This is a slightly-more-complicated mint-tin friendly
single-band rig for 80, 40, 30, 20, 17 or 15 meters. Nice thing: no coils
to wind on those tiny toroid donuts!
Heil Sound, Ltd Proset 6 Headphone/Microphone combination. $156.00 Value!
Best selling Boom Mic / Headset combo on the market! HC-6 mic element.
Headphones have phase reversal technology to help dig out DX.

Connect Quick (Ironworks Design LLC) “Connect Quick” – The new standard in
EMCOMM and contest antenna mounting. Roving season is firing up. Are you
setting up multiple antennas at each roving spot (or each Michigan State
Parks on the Air or QRP location Field Day spot)?
I won't be able to attend Dayton this year unfortunately. I am sending you
a Connect Quick (CQ) mast plate and one each of the horizontal and vertical
boom plates. I have found that the interest in my products goes up
dramatically if one gets to hold them and manipulate them apart and back
together. That is what reinforces the knowledge of how quickly they can be
deployed. Perhaps you can pass them around on the bus so that folks can
try them.
Retail value of these three pieces is $78.00 US.
Enjoy yourselves at the event and the new location!
