Dear OMIK family,
On August 18, 2015 the ham radio community in the Washington DC lost
another long time ham, Calvin Cooley, WA3HPS ("hot potato salad").
Cal was 83 years old and he is survived by two daughters and numerous
grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Cal grew up in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania
and earned a BS in Metallurgical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon
University. He retired from US Steel. In retirement Cal worked ensuring the
Washington DC parks department golf courses were safe and he enjoyed
playing golf in his spare time. Cal was also Vice President for many years
of the Capital City Amateur Radio Society (CCARS) and he enjoyed operating
CW on the HF bands. Cal was also active in OMIK at the time when the
convention was held in Washington DC. His steady presence and sound
judgement will be missed by the CCARS membership.
