[OKDXA] Status of Bouvet as DXCC Entity

I have been paying attention to the situation relative to 3Y0J. One thing I was looking at was what is the difference between the successful 3Y5X operation as documented in the Oct 1990 QST and the recent 3Y0J operation. I believe the main item to note is that the 1990 operation used a helicopter to bring heavy stuff, such as generators, linear amps and fuel on shore.

Also, the 1990 operation was from in a place on Bouvet that had a straight shot to NA, while still having decent takeoff angles to other continents.

It is ironic that the recent operation brought all of those linear amplifiers and “big” antennas yet they were never able to get it much of that stuff off the boat and setup.

It is probably the case that for me at least the chance to work Bouvet was a “once in a lifetime” event.

Maybe in the future there will be a political change that rearranges the Antarctic islands administered by Norway. It might be possible to rearrange the entities so that Bouvet is part of some new grouping. This would make that status of Bouvet a mute point while still recognizing “old Bouvet” is a now deleted entity. There is some precedent to this looking back to when the Dutch West Indies islands were repackaged for DXCC purposes. No one seemed to complain that the old Dutch Indies entities were deleted because they were replaced by new entities.
