Good Afternoon DX fans,

   For what it's worth...

This morning I thought I would try a little non-scientific test, just
for grins... As you may know, this week we have the opportunity to
operate as W1AW/5. If you've got a couple hours, and want to operate
pile-up style from your own ham shack, I encourage you to sign up and
give it a try...

Anyway, I signed up for 2 slots on 15 meters this morning. Digital
from 1400Z to 1600Z (8 to 10 AM) and CW from 1600Z to 1800Z (10AM to
Noon). I was running about 400 watts output and had my yagi pointed NE
towards Europe the whole time. On digital I choose FT4 and operated on
the standard frequency of 21.140. I had pretty gud pileups of folks
calling me, lots of Europeans. I choose FT4 since it is quicker than
FT8, and ran normal mode, no F/H, no multi-streaming. For the two hour
slot I had 131 QSOs on digi FT4.

During the CW time, I was still running 400 watts with the antenna
pointed NE. I sat on 21.027. I had pretty gud pileups up until about the
last 20 minutes, then I called CQ a lot. I ended up with 219 QSOs on CW.

So, same band, same amount of time, back to back 2 hour slots, FT4
QSOs = 131, CW QSOs = 219.

I know, I know... FT8 multi-stream F/H and all that would get you more
QSOs, but hey the old reliable Charley Whiskey still works... and it's
probably more fun!

   DX Is!

73,
Jeff - K5WE
