You're not entirely wrong. It's modular, though. Start with, say,
Commander which is the radio control. Then add stuff from there. The
minimum (to me) would be Commander for radio control and DXKeeper for
the log.
The rest is, more or less, nice-to-have stuff: DXView shows you stuff
about the station you are working (and will point your rotator to the
DX), Pathfinder is for sending paper to other stations like it's 1983,
WinWarbler is for digital stuff, SpotCollector aggregates spots,
Propview is for ... viewing ... prop ... agation.

It hasn't been mentioned but DXKeeper integrates with TQSL seamlessly
and handles multiple station locations like you'd expect. It will
package your QSO data for upload and process your data when it gets
matched by LOTW and comes back. A lot of this is why I have a little
over 200 confirmed despite bad wire and 100 W (and almost no CW).
