I won the grand door prize a few years ago at the Claremore Ham Convention. This was a couple of years ago when the last “in person” convention was held before the COVID shutdown.
After the convention, the convention manager called me on the phone and told me that I had won the grand prize which is a YAESU FT-891 They sent me the radio via UPS.
My main rig is an ICOM 7600 which is working FB. I also have and ICOM 756 Pro2 as a backup rig. I am used to the “look and feel” of the ICOM rigs. The way you setup the scope and setup split operation is basically “the same” across both of my ICOM rigs. I don’t like the “modern” rigs in which many of the physical knobs on the rig are replaced by flat panel buttons which might be visible if you page down thru layers of menus on the display.
I would like to give away the 891 to someone who is new into DXing. Do any of you know of somebody who is getting into ham radio that could use the rig?
I would like to “give back” something to ham radio. Back when I was a novice growing up in Downey CA a guy from the Downey Amateur Club gave me a “beat up” but operable Hallicrafters SX-28. I used that receiver to make hundreds of QSOs on the 40m novice band. I used this receiver along with a homebrew crystal controlled rig on the 40m novice band.
