It is impossible to say enough good things about the Suite or its
author. Incredible contribution to the hobby gets us part-way there.
A different n00b can get on his mailing list every day and ask the
same question and Dave will answer comprehensively and accurately.
Even if it comes up every day. I want those same drugs.
He's retired from Data General (well, their successor), has patents to
his name, and knows his way around a CPU register. He's also an
expert Windows programmer.
If you report a bug or request a new feature (it happens now and again
but it's rare because whatever you want is likely already there
somewhere!) he is likely to send you a new version of the module in
question for you to test. If it works, it becomes part of the next
update (he believes in rapid update cycles).
My personal recommendation is to eat the elephant one bite at a time.
Including the "launcher", there are 8 independent modules that each
run on their own and talk amongst themselves. I would recommend your
first bite be Commander which does rig control (plus the Launcher
which installs the modules and lets you keep them updated). Get rig
control working first and go from there. Add more modules as you get
comfortable.
There is no obligation but Dave does support Saint Jude's Children's
hospital and encourages you to send them a donation if you feel so
inclined.
