The noise was terrible on 160 m for the Stew Perry contest. I had a
terrible time until about midnight, but after that 160 m became as quiet
as any other band. I shunt feed my tower for tx K9AY loops for rx. Rates
got slow in the wee hours of the morning and I started falling asleep,
so I packed it. the preliminary scoreboard shows that I'm credited with
129 valid QSOs for a score of 853, which is nothing to brag about.
I entered in the low-power (100 W) category and am amazed to see myself
in 6th place for my category. It must've been equally bad for everyone,
though, which explains why I placed so well with such a poor showing. I
had way too many busted QSOs (over 10%!) because I'm rusty, but it was a
good workout. I was pretty sure I worked F5IN, but the opening was fast
degrading and what i thought I heard was wishful thinking as I didn't
get credited with him.
