So that everyone is perfectly clear on what's been going on: Frank
Donovan, W3LPL, is being considered as the HH banquet speaker and, as a
bonus, being asked to consider hosting a Contesting 101 type of session
to test the waters for interest. If this goes well, the larger idea is
to create a "Ham Holiday Community College," derived from content
available within the local community plus some invited experts. Because
HH is now housed within OCCC, the environment is not only unique but
ideal. HH attendance has increased rapidly (~700 this time around) and
HH would like to capitalize on the excellent facilities OCCC offers.
Other ideas include DMR 101, along with topics from the local "Maker"
community, such as 3D Printing or Laser Cutting 101. None of this is a
"done deal," but is being strongly considered pending interest and
various other details to which I'm not privy. The more interest
expressed, the more likely these things will happen in some form or another.
So far, I have nine people from OKDXA interested in either attending or
helping with a Contesting 101 type of event, which is more than I
expected! Counting me, that's ten. I'll report back to the HH committee
that OKDXA has at least ten interested in taking part.
