Meeting Minutes
OKDXA Meeting at Ham Holiday in OKC 27Jul2019
The meeting was called to order by OKDXA President Kim Elmore, N5OP, at
12:01PM.
Kim recognized visiting ARRL officials John Stratton, N5AUS - West Gulf
Division Director and Steven Smith, KG5VK - North Texas Section Manager.
Mr. Stratton spoke about the current proposal regarding reallocating 2 meter
band frequencies to other services. He stressed the need to encourage ARRL
membership, which now stands at about 156,000 hams. He also spoke about LoTW
2.0 and the financial commitment required to maintain the Logbook of the
World system. Mr. Stratton also mentioned the need for an additional card
checker in Oklahoma.
Jeff Martin, K5WE, OKDXA Sec/Treas, gave the Treasurer's report. Since the
April Green Country meeting we have had dues deposits of $216.48, and
disbursements in the form of donations in support of 7 different DXpeditions
totaling $850.00. Current bank balance is $1125.66.
Jeff Martin, K5WE, spoke of plans for a DXpedition trip to VP2V, British
Virgin Islands, sometime this fall.
Kim Elmore, N5OP, stated the Fall OKDXA banquet will be held on Saturday
October 19, 2019.
President Kim Elmore, N5OP, presented a framed 5 Band DXCC Certificate to
Jim Richardson N5OHL. Congratulations Jim!
President Kim Elmore, N5OP, gave a presentation dealing with the background
of Amateur Radio and the OKDXA. He covered: Amateur Radio: Basis and
Purpose, Why DX? What is HF and VHF DX and DXing? Communication modes for
DX. Equipment needed for DXing. And some of the purposes that OKDXA exists.
The following hams were in attendance: K5WE, N5ZY, N5OHL, K2GKK, K5SM,
N5AUS, KG5VK, W5UBI, K0DKR, K0BOG, K3RDX, K5RKS, K2BA, K5ADI, N5AQ, KA5BJS,
and N5OP, 11 club members, 6 visitors.
The meeting was adjourned by President Kim Elmore, N5OP, at 12:50PM.
