Amateur Radio Roundtable Subject: Heard Island DXpedition Update - Sept 8 This week's guest on W5KUB.com's Amateur Radio Roundtable will be Dr. Robert Schmieder, KK6EK, from Walnut Creek, California. Bob is the founder and Expedition Leader of Cordell Expeditions, a nonprofit research group begun in 1977. The group is responsible for the creation of the Cordell Bank National Marine Sanctuary and for numerous research expeditions to remote oceanic sites. He is a research physicist, by profession, with about 100 publications and four patents.
Bob was licensed in 1962 and holds an extra class license, KK6EK. His specialties are very difficult DXpeditions and developing new technology for DXpeditions. He is the inventor (for XR0Y/Z) of the online log server and DXA, the real-time log website (for K7C).
He has been on numerous DXpeditions and, as an amateur radio operator and a physicist, has combined ham radio fun with his work. Bob is also an author of many books. During the webcast we will talk about a wide range of topics; including, past DXpeditions, the upcoming Heard Island DXpedition, his discoveries, and other scientific discussions.
To learn more about the Expedition, go to their website, Heard Island: The 2016 Cordell Expedition and/or subscribe to their newsletter.
Last week we started a new roundtable segment called "Ask Riley". Riley Hollingsworth, K4ZDH and former FCC Special Counsel for Enforcement in Amateur Radio, will be on our webcast every other week to answer your questions. Send your questions to askriley at w5kub.com for discussion in the program. The phone lines may also be available for questions. The next "Ask Riley" segment will be September 15.
