Gary and Rick. Being in 5 land my entire ham life except for a few years in Missouri, I know of only one top win in the major DX contests over all those years. N5AU and a crew of some of the finest operators in the world whipped all including those dastardly Easterners, the ones who bully you around, steal your frequency, at least try, and then act surprised when you hold your ground.
Virtually always the stations that win the majors are on the East Coast. I was at WRTC this year in Massachusetts and from my mobile was working Europe like I hear Oklahoma and Texas on 80 meters.
For awards like DXCC - I have a certificate and endorsement for DXCC as K5YAA/VO1 and worked something around 90 as TF2WIU. That in a year or so. Personally I wouldn't mind DXCC from say Italy, France or heck maybe Bahrain. Do enough hammering on the same remote station and rack up several pieces of such paper for the wall. I don't care to do that but I can assure you hearing a DL proudly running 3 watts into an indoor attic style dipole at 5 over S9 is easier on the old bones than asking him to repeat his call 5 times in the middle of a hot run from here in 5 land.
Maybe what I am saying is, contesting with a remote station would be without question a way to be on equal footing with those East Coasters. If you don't contest I understand, just suffice it to say my 48 hours in the chair are much more work than 48 spent by the 1,2 and 3 landers.
So, I'll let the DXCC purists do their thing. Maybe give me 500 miles versus a paltry 125. Heck I can spit 125 miles. I say purists because I read those minutes of the meeting they had. Man, you'd think they were editing the bible or something. Some very serious people! Onward with this great hobby. You win I lose or I win you lose. Both of us had loads of fun hopefully.

What I have a problem with is stations on the west coast using stations on the east coast and vice versa. Also, if a station is overseas etc, and using a remote station here in the united states,, should not be allowed. We would not actually be working the station from that country. I realize with all the restrictions it is getting harder and harder to fine a place allowing outside antenna's. I usually try to find someplace without covernants, but this is getting more and more difficult. So, with using remote within a couple of hundred miles, I am perfectly ok with, but any further, should not be allowed.
