John & Kim:
I've only been into DXing for about ten years. This Amsterdam operation is
different in some ways from any other operation. The pileups are unruly
but not as bad as Scarborough or Peter I. There are some good openings BUT
they are short (maybe 45 / day or less) for a given band {except for 20m and
17m which have longer openings} For once, the EU guys seem fairly well
behaved and giving us guys here in NA a chance.
The openings to the Pacific [Scarborough, Conway Reef , and the Antarctic
Islands [South Shetland, Peter I, etc] were much longer each day.
At my age this is likely the last chance I'll have for Amsterdam so I'm glad
I at least worked him on CW and PHONE. My goal is to see if I can make it to
the bottom (not the top) of the Honor Roll. I still have 6 or 8 to go. My
count now is 328 but that includes some deleted countries.
It is crazy that otherwise normal people arrange their lives around being
able to send 599 TU to some guy using the radio. However, even my XYL is
kinda interested in the idea of being able to talk to the farthest place
there is on the other side of the earth (Well at least the farthest place
that is not on the ocean).

Hope I get them soon. This has been a busy week with work and doctors
appointments, and they don't seem to be choosing bands that fit with my
schedule :(. For example, I had some free time this morning, but they
weren't on 30m. The other night when I was free they weren't on 20 CW.
That is the band I am hearing them best on. Did put up a Mosley mini 32A
tribander which seems to be helping, especially on 20.
I just want 1 QSO with them so I can get life back to more normal and
having to stop arranging it around some RF coming from the Southern Indian
Ocean!
