Hello OKDXA.
As everyone probably knows by now, Edmond Amateur Radio Society (EARS) is assisting OKDXA in coordinating the second week of W1AW/5 operations in Oklahoma, beginning at 7:00 p.m. next Tuesday, August 12th through 6:59 p.m. August 19th (local times). We now have 23 stations who have registered to operate from their home QTHs, many of whom are members of OKDXA - but we would love to have more operators, particularly DXers and contesters like you! If you have not signed up, please consider doing so.
It's a very simple process. There is a link on the EARS website- www.k5eok.org - to a web-based spreadsheet where registered stations can select any number of 2-hour band/mode slots as your moment in the sun... to operate W1AW/5 from your own station, in the comfort of your home. You must first be an ARRL member, and then you must get registered. To get registered, all you have to do is send an email to w5cu at aol.com with the following information: name, callsign, license class, description of your station and power capability, description of your HF operating background, your preferred times of operation, whether you want to operate from your home QTH or another station (and the callsign of the other station, if known) and your telephone contact information including a cell phone where you can best be reached. You will then receive an email noting approval to use the callsign and a temporary password that will allow you to log-in to the spreadsheet, change to your password of choice, and then you are good to go. You will receive a short set of operating guidelines that should fill in the gaps and prepare you to operate this event.
You can go to the EARS website and link to more information or feel free to contact Sam W5CU at 405 834 0616 if you have any questions. We hope you will join us. Remember, operating W1AW/ during the ARRL Centennial QSO party is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity - don't miss it! It will be a blast.
73 de Sam W5CU, EARS W1AW/5 Coordinator
