John,
You are correct. The gain is a little less on an LP. You trade gain for
it being broad banded. I'm currently using a T-10 and it works good for
me. I had a T-12 which had better gain and narrower beam width but an ice
storm took it down. :-( I like an LP because it is always resonant with
no traps and no moving parts. ;-)
