If your friends FT-897D was won at a recent hamfest and has a full warranty
available that would be useful information to post in order to support the
price.

If not, you might want to consider counseling your friend regarding a
reasonable price for a used Yaesu FT-897D.  He may have purchased the rig
back when they were priced in the $1,399 area.  However, tonight Ham Radio
Outlet has a price of $949.95, GigaParts has a price of $939.00 and Amateur
Electronic Supply has a price of $949.99.  All of these prices are with the
1-year new purchase warranty.  A somewhat lower price might have a better
chance of selling your friends radio.
