You guys say hello to Jim Hood, K5TT for me tomorrow at lunch. We have had
clouds all day today in southeast Mississippi, but none of the rain or bad
weather you guys have had. The rain should get here late tonight or early
tomorrow. I think the bad weather will be north of us. We have had about ½
inch of rain in the last 60 days here. We could use a good rain. The
complete month of October we only had .4 inches of rain. But we can do
without the tornados. It got up to 79 here today, so it concerns me that
the cold front is headed this way. Could be an omen of bad weather.

Talked to Bob Allphin, K4UEE a couple of times last week. He headed to
Columbia this past Saturday for planning meetings for the HK0NA trip to
Malpelo Island after the first of the year. It will be a duck shoot from
here as it is only 1930 miles. I should be able to work them with a
vertical and a KW without any problems. I know when YV0D was active back in
August of 2004 from Aves Island, I beat the pileups on 17 meters from my
truck running the Icom 709 MKIIG at 100 watts on the way home from work one
day. Aves Island is about 60 miles further from here than Malpelo Island.
This will be a fun one from my QTH and you guys in Oklahoma should be able
to compete with the east coast guys and beat out the west coast guys. If
they do not get the antennas at the very top of the peak, we all will be in
trouble because they will be blocked from 220 degrees to 10 degrees. I am
sitting at 346 degrees from them, so I would be in the shadow, also. It
looks like it is going to be a very physical trip for them.

I was surprised by the big numbers for the T32C DXpedition. I have worked
T32 several times over the past 10 years and I guess I did not realize that
it was that rare. I remember the HK0TU DXpedition in 1969 to Malpelo
Island, but I do not remember who has been there since then. Have a good
lunch tomorrow and I will be thinking about you guys! Maybe one of these
times I will surprise you for lunch!
