I have an older TH5DX - the one that has beta tubes for matching and
has one driven
element rather than two driven. I took the antenna down to replace
all of the plastic
trap end caps, and all of the other bits of plastics as the HyGain kit
provides. The antenna is partially disassembled - elements sitting on
a bench waiting for me to clean up the traps, and put it back up.
While I had it down I though I would see if I cound find a lighteer
antenna like a TH3, but haven' found one. The TH5 survives the OK
weather, fine, but it does wiggle the top of my aluminum tower a bit.
The VSWR
is flat around 14150, 21150 and 28300. If I don't get any
takers I'll probably let the traps go individually, since they are
shipped easier than the whole antenna, and I think MFJ/Hygain wants
fair price for new ones. I am guessing the antenna is about 10 years
old, and was stored before I put it up 3 yrs ago. The antenna weighes
about 50 pounds, and I need something like 30 pounds.
I had 596 qsos and 106 countries in the last ARRL CW DX test on 20m
single band.
So let me know. I am anxious to put something back up - either this
TH5 or a replacement. Up What is a fair price? $250? I have a
few pix of it in the air if wanted.
