Are you lacking for something to do next weekend? Do the lack of sunspots
have you in the doldrums? I apologize that this is not HF related but I
know many of you have VHF rigs and the list has been kinda quiet lately, so
I thought I might try and liven things up. There's a push to get more
participation in the Sept. VHF QSOP this year. I'll be on at least 6, 2 and
432. I would appreciate any contacts you could send my way.
I've worked 13 states on 2 meters since returning from the Central States
VHF Society conference in late July. VHF can be a lot of fun. WSJT,
digital modes and meteor scatter are my favorites right now. But, I
digress..
A friend of mine from up North and a fellow CSVHFSer sent me the following
email that I thought I might pass along. There will be extra rover activity
to our North during the contest. Turn your rig on and point up that way for
some new grids.

Hello Oklahoma VHF'er:
I noticed that you submitted a contest entry for a VHF/UHF
contest in the past few years. The ARRL September VHF
Contest is coming up on Sept 12th and 13th and I hope you'll
get on the air and submit a log. Why this year? Because of
Midwest Mania! What's that? An effort to increase VHF
activity and fun across the Midwest Division and the Great
Plains by making extra effort for one particular contest.
See the website about Midwest Mania! at:
http://w9fz.com/midwestmania09/ You'll note there will be
more rovers than normal active in the region. That should
help QSO volume and multipliers.
The list of rovers known to be active across the Great
Plains for the upcoming contest is growing: W9FZ/R, KK6MC/R,
WR0I/R, and KA0KCI/R (Rumors of KR0VER/R and N0LP/R in
nearby Colorado)
Fixed stations: Please get on the air and have fun! If you
know you will be on and looking for increased activity
across the Great Plains, hit reply and I'll add your call to
the list of known fixed stations on the air for Midwest
Mania! Fixed stations in the states surrounding the Midwest
Division and Oklahoma and South Dakota, please point your
beams out into the Great Plains and find more activity than
normal. If you beam out that way, you may find Q's, mults,
and band-grids you need.
Rovers: If you'll be roving in the Midwest Division, the
Great Plains area, or even eastern Colorado, send me your
schedule, bands, etc and I'll add a tab to help bring
attention to your rove. We can use more than the four
rovers I know about so far!
Activity breeds activity and increased activity means more
fun. Keep your rotor humming. Keep spinning that dial--you
will find activity off of 144.200.
Please check back to the Midwest Mania! website periodically
to see Rovers final schedules. Questions, comments, and
suggestions--send 'em along to w9fz at w9fz.com .
Thanks. I hope to work you in the September contest. And
even if I don't, I hope you find more activity than in most
VHF contests.
Please expect one more email next week. Thanks!
