[OKDXA] Kenwood TS830

John,

Had one almost 30 years ago. Receiver was as good as most others of its
day, only fair by today's standards. Much more susceptible to overload
and mediocre filtering. Absolute pleasure to operate, though. Loved the
smooth sounding receive audio. Nice agc. The VFO was excellent for its
time, but you will notice some drift for the first several minutes. Very
well made, beautiful fit and finish. Very reliable (back when they were
new), not sure about now. Lots of guys replaced the driver tube
regularly, but the 6146Bs seemed to last forever. Replaced it with an FT
901DM. Replaced that with an IC 740. Replaced that with a TS930. Each
was much better than the previous one. I wouldn't mind owning an 830
again, but mostly for nostalgia.
