Ken:
Yes, I know what you mean. I did not work a lot Friday night and I did not
start operating until about 8:15 that evening. The first guy I worked was
number 315. This is one of the hardest CW contests for me because you have
to copy the serial number. I just took it slow and sure and with my station
you have to S&P so I just listened around and made sure I listened to the
QSO before and after me just to make sure. I think I could have run a
frequency on 20 meters because I was working Europe with my vertical and 100
watts rather easily. I normally do not run a frequency in CW contests
because I doubt my CW skills but I have made over 1000 Q's in CW contests in
the past. It would probably do me well to run a frequency. I do not
practice like a lot of these contesters do, either. A lot of them listen to
the high speed QSO's and tapes that you pull as many call signs out of. It
would probably help me if I did that. Since I have laid off for over a year
I was not as sure about it but it is sort of like riding a bike. I was
copying guys at 40 WPM+ at times so I guess I was not too rusty. It was fun
to get in there and make some Q's, though. We got up Saturday morning and
drove to Mobile, AL. It is our 30th wedding anniversary today and we went
out of town to celebrate. We went to Bellingrath Gardens and some museums
and ate a lot of good sea food while we were there. We watched the new
Indiana Jones movie and enjoyed that. It was the first time we have been on
a little vacation in over a year. I think the last time we went anywhere
was before we moved into our new house last April. Since our granddaughter
was born last July we have been tied up with her. Hope you had fun in the
contest and none of that nasty weather I saw on the news got anywhere near
you. It looked like it was up near Kingfisher County.

Alan, N5PA

Hi Alan,
I got on for a while last evening at the start of the contest. Even though
not competing, it was still a humbling experience - operating pretty much
all the time since the start, and having people give you #500 when you are
giving them #100. I knew I was a lousy contest op, but didn't know it was
this bad.
Did not hear anything new, but did have fun getting a bunch of Asiatic
Russians on 20M.
