About a week ago I was surfing schematics for a balanced antenna tuner
and came across a site full of antenna legend & lore that claimed it's
becoming semi-popular with the AM BCB crowd to run elevated verticals.
Allegedly yields a lower and more predictable elevation pattern with
reduced long-term maintenance vs slightly higher construction costs up
front. I know the concept is nothing new, but this is the first I've
heard of the NAB declaring it's "a good thing".
I have this dream of a modest vertical on 75 with elevated radials, but
I also have a dream of meeting a thirty-something red-haired
nymphomaniac who owns a liquor store... The antenna is more likely, but
not by much.
PS: Real Frogs run 12ga silver-teflon for everything. Snoop around any
place dealing in avionics surplus or repair and it might surprise you
how cheap it can be if you live near a lucky lily pad...
