It could also be the result of less than intelligent behavior like playing golf, fishing, mountain climbing, and contesting in a thunder storm.  All of which are mainly male activities.  Of course, it could be related to the "not asking for directions" trait.

It turns out that men really are struck by lightning at 4 times the 
rate of women. But, this has more to do with typical male occupations 
(typically construction) than anything else.
