I just got finished ordering my Zero Five 43 Foot Multi-Band Vertical, Full
Radial Plate, and the Array Solutions ZF-MBalun-5K Balun. The antenna will
ship tomorrow and the balun will ship today. I am going to Lowe's this
evening after work and buy a bunch of wire for the radials. Hopefully in a
couple of weeks I will be on the air with the new vertical on 160-10 meters
with my Ameritron AL-1500 in line. DX should be easier to work with this
setup. No traps or coils, I just have to put down a lot of radials. I want
to have it on the air before the Rwanda DXpedition comes up. So I will be
busy running radials. He told me to get a one foot square copper plate and
soldering a #8 wire to it and throw it out in my pond and it should add
extra grounding to the system. I am going to put four 8 foot ground rods at
the base to add to the grounding. I should hit the water table since it is
so close to the pond. So hopefully in a few weeks I should have a decent
signal on the bands and I should be able to work DX a lot better than I can
know.
