They're PVC, weather extremely well (I have one that has been outside
20+ years and has not gone brittle, although it is semi-shaded) plus I
wouldn't be afraid to use "35 Year" acrylic latex house caulk (ALEX) to
glue stuff inside. If you don't care about recycling the innards, for
two bucks worth of caulk you could 'pot' the box and probably never have
a problem with it... Assuming the goods inside generate little heat and
the caulk doesn't detune anything.
If it does, peel it out within a few days and that should be an easy
job. Let it set up for a month or longer and you'll have your work cut
out for you... I've been re-caulking my windows lately and 30 year old
latex caulk does develop a strong emotional bond to whatever it's on. ;)
