After many years of effort permission has been received for a DXpedition  to
Glorioso Island (FR/G).  The Glorioso Islands (Iles Glorieuses) are  a
sand and coral archipelago that stretch almost 16 kilometers and  are
located about 220 kilometers northwest of Madagascar (5R).   The
archipelago is made up of Grande Glorieuse (about 3 kilometers  in
diameter) and Petite Glorieuses (600 meter diameter), which is  10
kilometers from the main island.  The archipelago also includes  Verte
Rocks, Wreck Rock and South Rock.  The main island is located at  11
33' South 47 17' East.  The highest point on the main island is a  sand
dune about 10 to 12 meters high.  Glorioso is ranked at number 4  in
The DX Magazine's 2008 Most Wanted List and has not been QRV since  May
2000.  The DXpedition to Glorioso is expected in early May.   Probably
starting "between May 5th to 9th for some weeks" reports F6AJA,  Jean-
Michel, editor of Les Nouvelles DX.  As of the moment the  operators
expected are F5PTM, Pascal; F5IRO, Freddy; F6KIN, Stephane;  F8CRS,
David; F5PRU, Yves-Michel and possibly three others.  They will  try to
have three or four stations.
