Guys:

I got back on the air Saturday afternoon and operated some of the ARRL DX
Phone Contest. I do not consider my station as a “Little Pistol”, more like
a “Little BB Gun”! I operated with 100 watts and a vertical on 20-10
meters. I operated a couple of hours on Saturday afternoon and a few hours
on Sunday. I made 240 contacts, 101 band countries, with 67 unique
countries worked. This is the first time I have been on the air in 12 ½
months and I can really tell the difference between the Force 12 XR5 at 82
feet and Big Bertha running. I also worked the FO5A/MM bunch headed toward
Clipperton on 20 and 15 with relative ease. The big question is will I be
able to work them once they are on the island with all the rest of the
stations. I looked back last night and I only have Clipperton confirmed on
10 meter phone. So I have a lot of fills that I can work on. I do not have
anything up for 160-30 meters so I will be very limited to where I can work
them. Around noon yesterday they said they were 600 miles out, which meant
2 ½ days left to get there. So it looks like Wednesday the fun will begin.
I will try them with my “Little BB Gun” station and see if I can pull out a
contact amongst the fury. Good Hunting!

Alan, N5PA
