[OKDXA] HamCom2008

Pencil and paper Ken! Write 'em as you pick them out of the pile.
It was a recording - 6 ops sat at one session each with headphones
on. You got a bit of listening time to adjust the audio then the pile shows up
for one minute of copy. I'd say it was very similar to a good 15 meter
run into Europe when the sunspots are at their peak except all you had
to do was copy them - no transmitting back. Out of 105 I personally think
upwards of 30 could never be pulled out no matter how good you are as
callers would simply mask other callers at times. It was a well put together
test in my opinion and speed was not the major factor at all as top speed
might have hit 35 - 40 max - most were under 30 WPM.

I understand the test was essentially put together the same way they do
it in Dayton so it was a fun experience. The LSDXA is puts on a good
show at HamCom each year and I understand they plan to continue with
the CW Pile Up test in years to come.

Jerry - K5YAA

P.S. They supplied the paper and pencils so maybe see you next year.
