I tried a similar approach back in the early 80's with the original IBM
PC but the Centronics parallel to 1/4" phone jack interface cable was a
major challenge. I was designing with 12AU7's and stepping relay logic
at the time, might have better luck today using J-FET OpAmps and PIN diodes.
