Not sure how many of you knew Bob but he was an old time DXer and good CW
man.

Bob See, N5PC became a Silent Key last Wednesday, 9/26. Bob in recent years
hasn't been too active in the KCARC due to health problems but when I first
came to Ponca City he was very active and was my 'Elmer' helping me get
started in ham radio. That was almost 30 years ago now. Bob was very active
as a DXer, CW was his favorite mode. His DX count was way up there, over 300
as I recall, he had basically worked them all except for one or two of the
most recent additions.
He learned CW before WWII and was a Navy Radioman during the war using CW
exclusively. I remember the stories he used to tell about his Navy days in
the Pacific. They would put all the radiomen in the same underground room
(for protection for bombs!) and they would all use headphones and
typewriters. Even with headphones it was a noisy room and after a few weeks
the crickets would chirp in Morse code!
*The funeral will be this Saturday, 9/29 at 10AM in the Trout Funeral home
chapel on West Grand here in Ponca City.*
He'll be sorely missed.
73, Dave KD5FX
