Guys:
We had a great time at the ARRL Day in the Park yesterday in Starkville, MS.
Malcolm Keown, W5XX, the Mississippi Section Manager for the ARRL was the
Master of Ceremonies. MFJ sponsored the event and they did an outstanding
job. A representative from ICOM was there and had some rigs set up to
operate, like the 7800. I think everyone enjoyed the tours and I learned
that by putting a 33 ohm resistor to ground and attaching the ground to my
light bulbs in my AL-1500 it will extend the light bulbs life greatly.
Those are 12 volt bulbs and it has a 14 volt supply so this is why the bulbs
blow so quickly. The newer amps already have this.
Mary Hobart from League Headquarters was there and brought some different
books to be given away at the drawing. Henry Leggette, WD4Q the Delta
Division Director and Karl Bullock, WA5TMC, the Vice Director were both
there and talked. They gave an award to Martin Jue. The Mayor of
Starkville pronounced it Ham Radio Day in Starkville and gave Martin an
award for what he has done to the community. He employees 135 people and he
said that their $3,000,000 payroll turns over in the community ten times.
MFJ fed us a great lunch and then had prize drawings. Several MFJ products
were given away and then a vertical antenna was given away as the second
prize and an Ameritron AL-811H was given away as the main prize. I do not
remember his call but Bob Sanderson won the amp. We appreciate Martin Jue
and MFJ sponsoring this event and we wish him another 35 years of success.
If you did not go you missed a good time.
We really had a good time driving up there and back and the trip was not bad
because of all the good discussion. We ran into some rain showers coming
back down Highway 45 on the way home but it all stopped before we got to
Meridian.
I know I got to see a lot of people that I have not seen in a while and it
was good to see them. There were a good number of people from out of state
that came in for the 35th anniversary of MFJ and I think they all had a good
time. You missed a good time at this event if you were not there!
As always, Good Hunting!
