Ann (somebody) in room 2202... 50-ish, average height, average build,
medium length dark brown hair, no glasses. She's non-technical and the
lab is mostly staff & faculty. We hit it off nicely and I thought it was
one of the better interviews I've done. Good fit for what I've been
doing and there should be no problem in getting a positive
recommendation from the previous job.
They need someone by August 20th and will be doing follow-up interviews
before then so I'll have a better idea of what the odds are in two weeks
or so. Better money than what I had been seeing (when a school pays
better I take that as a sign I've been working below my potential) and
the commute will be extremely low-stress, assuming we're talking about
SEC... They have a similar spot available at Metro.
Funny how the priorities change with age. Used to be salary was all I
cared about, now it's job security and bennies. We haven't gotten that
far but I'll assume the medical insurance is decent. I don't see any
major issues coming up but there is one doctor who'd like to see me do a
CAT scan / EKG / X-Ray twice a year and blood samples every other month
or so. Just keeping an eye on me. Assuming I can stay in-network that
qualifies for the group discount and is incredibly less expensive than a
straight cash transaction. When I had the outpatient surgery at
Southcrest last year the hospital knocked 80% off list and then we did a
65 / 35 split on the balance. I figure I got my premiums back on that one...
So, any thoughts on the bennies? Not that a healthy guy like you would
have any direct experience with that, but maybe you know someone who
has........ ;)
