Fellows,
Not gonna make it to Ham Holiday this year. Dave and Jim will be there
to check your cards. Have to pick up the wife at the airport Saturday
morning. (weeklong Photoshop seminar at Indiana University)
Been giving some thought to the antenna proposition. Great opportunity
IMO. Firstly, what is our liability clause? Is permission granted the
club or an individual. It'll be expensive and the possibilities are
endless, however - - -
What if you could control a monoband 3 element 80 meter yagi at 250'
from home? It's possible and we get the top 25' and only have to deal
with the blinky light at the top. (Food for thought) We have a few
engineers in the membership to lend a hand. The FCC will be watching.
This is an opportunity that demands some thought and maybe commitment.
The OKDXA treasury won't handle much if any of it.
After reading the "conditions", the large yagis are not an immediate
option for fear of interfering with other future services. Offset (from
the tower) rotors are absurdly expensive. How well does the elevator
work Ken. hi OSHA condemned the Turkey Mountain tower elevator for
the Tulsa Repeater Organization. (been to the top (600') a few times)
Regardless, we should pursue this venture.
Think wires, coax, baluns, plenums, fasteners, conduit, shack, wind
loading, internet link, grounding, security, legal agreements, UPS,
isolation, contest with a 1/4 wave sloper for 160 meters, remote
control, operate onsite initially. Permissions and access, keep it
simple initially. Get something in the air that's usable. VHF/UHF
verticals or a 3 el yagi at 250' i could hit from here in East Tulsa
normally. What's the elevation at the site? It's a 2 hour drive from
here to Stillwater. Good excuse to visit a niece at school there.
Didn't see any agreement about we should keep the top blinky light
working. FCC hasn't backed off on that requirement. 4 spool "tails"
of 5/8" CATV 75 ohm coax here to donate. It'll need a couple impedance
matching xfmrs at the ends for high pwr. For any short lengths of
RG-8, Coy has 'em. (I've seen his pile of coax and seen him purchase
PL-259's by the dozen at Dayton) Have you seen his jpegs of the ice
storms) Forgive me pal.
Thanks to Ken K5KC for the opportunity...... Does W5LC climb towers?
Thanks Doug.
Ken has my proxy on any decisions on above topic at HamHoliday.
Someone please take notes at the meeting. TIA
Many thanks to so many.
