Tried posting this yesterday but it was rejected at QTH.NET as spam...
Let's see what happens today.

-----------------------------------------------

If anyone is looking for a blue-sky solution for the free tower space
idea, consider this: Fly a Windom off the side like a sloper. Use plenty
of rope top & bottom so that RF-wise it's floating in free space. All
band coverage 'cept for 160 and 15 with only two connecting points to
the tower (top end and wherever the coax ends up coming off the wire at
a right angle) plus one point on the ground. Shouldn't create an
obstacle course for the next tower climber.

What about the rig? Here ya' go...
http://radio.tentec.com/Amateur/Transceivers/TT588 Ten-Tec Omni VII with
an Ethernet port. Assuming there's a way to get a broadband web
connection at the site (remember that we're dreaming) any 'pooter
anywhere in the world can remote the radio via TCP/IP with Windoze and a
sound card. For all I know keyboard CW might also be possible for the
irony oblivious.

Cool, Ehhhh?

Since we're not cheap dudes we'd opt for the auto tuner and matching PS.
Figure three large for the combo plus insurance and whatever... Seems a
bit much to feed a $30 antenna with a $200 feed line, but we're talking
serious propagation in at least one direction if not all directions
assuming the wire hangs far enough away from the tower.

What's not to like? Oh, yeah, the cost.

Aside from the time & money involved it's a walk in the park...
