This place sound like a place Tulsa Amateur Radio Club will be using.
TARC has been granted the opportunity to build out a remote
communications facility located SW of Mounds Oklahoma (35d 49' 51.30" N,
96d 08' 45.15" W). This facility is inside a structure (about 90' x
175') which was previously owned and operated by AT&T to provide
critical communications to our government (Red phone). It is build like
the proverbial brick outhouse. It is located next door to the Astronomy
Club of Tulsa's Observatory. This facility will allow our club to have
a secure location, including antenna system, which we can use to improve
our emergency communications and for the NWS in their coverage area.
Our next step is to erect walls in this facility to delineate our space
from other users of the facility. We have been authorized to build out
an area that is 34' x 23' with a direct outside entrance. The long
range plans are to put the 6M repeater here along with a HF setup that
can be operated remotely. This floor and tower space is available to
other groups with TARC approval.

Hi, Ken and all:

This is a generous offer, and the whole concept is intriguing. We have
a
lot of calculating to do before we can implement anything. However, I
think
that we should keep our options open--at least for the time being.

I have been doing some modeling with HFTA to see what the possibilities
might be. The biggest problem is that at that height, there are nulls
right
in the middle of predicted angles from 7-28 MHz. On the other hand, an
80m
Yagi would be perfect, and a phased array of sloping dipoles on 160
would be
a killer system.

Bill, N5TU

Doug, I think you got my reply, but I notice it did not go to the entire
reflector.

The tower is 28 miles north of Stillwater, OK. It is about mid-way
between
Stillwater and Ponca City.

If anybody has an interest in free use of the 225-250 foot segment of
the
tower, or if they know someone and want to pass the message to them,
please
let me know. Otherwise, I will soon be calling the MN ham and telling
him
there are no takers. For more details, please read my original e-mail
at
the bottom of this one.

73 to all,

Ken K5KC

Is that Stillwater, OK or Stillwater, MN?

A fellow ham from MN called last night and offered FREE the following
things
to a group of hams who might want to take advantage of them:

1. The top 25 feet of a 250 foot tower (self supporting and beefy enough
to
put ANY antennas we want up there).

2. 200 sq ft of a 3000 sq ft building with 24 inch walls (hurricane
proof).

3. Free electrical from 800 amp 3 phase service.

This might be of interest to a group of contesters who would want to use
the
location as their ready-made contesting HQs (28 miles north of
Stillwater).
Or, to DXers who are forced into remote operation by covenants. I
suspect
some pretty decent antennas could be scrounged.

This gentleman sounds totally solid. He buys towers and sells the space
for
various purposes. He always tries to allot some of the prime space to
fellow hams.

Anybody interested? Any group of a few contesters interested?
