In my hobby room I had a SONY 13" TV that I used for general TV watching
and as a video test monitor through the A/V jacks.
Picked it up cheap at a thrift shop and it worked fine except for a
slight amount of snow in the picture off rabbit ears. Even with the
rooftop antenna well-saturated colors would dance a little with noise.
I'm within line of sight of the big towers in Oneta and rabbit ears are
never a problem. Anyway, it finally gave out with a power supply that
needed multiple chances at a cold start and sometimes it wouldn't turn
on no matter how many times I tried.
Scrapped it out this morning. I see sets like that all the time at the
thrift shops. When I unplugged the RF input cable from the tuner module,
the center pin of the RCA phono plug stayed in the jack and I was
looking at the center conductor buck naked sticking out of the shell.
The center pin was soldered, but never bonded to the center conductor.
Cold solder joint.
I'd have never caught that if I went after the snowy picture bug, but
what an easy fix once ya' know.
