[OKDXA] ARRL DX contest

Hi, John and All:

Interesting about your CW observation. Most of the stations I worked were
running about 28 WPM (that's where I set the WriteLog CW generator to match
them). My wife, K7FOX, asked me if CW contests were going to be a thing of
the past in light of losing the CW requirement for licensing. Considering
the level of activity and quality of operators, I don't think so, at least
not for old curmudgeons like me.

Conditions were pretty good: they had to be, considering that I was running
an inefficient vertical down here in the hollow but could work almost
anything I could hear on 40 and 20 (50+ countries on each of those in just a
few hours of operating). Next year, the towers and Yagis will be up.

All in all, it was great fun!

Did everyone have fun in the ARRL DX CW contest this
past weekend? I found it kind of strange realizing
that this was the last contest where you had to have
actually demonstrated CW proficiency at one time to
enter.

Well the conditions seemed pretty good and I put in a
few hours here and there on 15m and 80m only. Had a
blast last night on 80, working 22 countries total on
that band. I woke up right around sunrise this AM and
instead of rolling over and going back to sleep like I
normally would on a Sunday morning, I got up to check
the greyline prop since it was a contest weekend.
Worked a few JAs on 80, and then caught VK9DNX for a
new 80m country! That is 6 new countries on 80 this
winter (E51-N, GI, OE, YV0, 5A, and VK9N). 15 was
pretty good today and had a nice JA opening around
4:30pm or so. Picked up a few new prefixes.

Bert, you about broke my S meter on 80 saturday night!
